The conversation Jesus had with Peter at the Sea of Galilee gives a clear answer to what a disciple's calling is.
Jesus' question to Peter sets the foundation for the calling: “Do you love me?” (1). If the answer is “Yes”, John made it clear that the confession has consequences:

Jesus' question to Peter sets the foundation for the calling: “Do you love me?” (1). If the answer is “Yes”, John made it clear that the confession has consequences:
Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen.To love God and my neighbour is the very root of the calling. If love is not present in my life, whatever I do will be without fruit. If the love is there, the calling is summed up in Jesus' invitation to Peter. An important reminder to give to the one chosen to be the leader of the flock after Jesus had ascended to heaven:
